Rain date from last week.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Plymouth Democratic Club is participating in Adopt A Road. We have adopted a stretch of Edward Hines Drive where people in our community come to picnic, bike, run, walk, and play! Join us on Saturday to help keep Hines Drive beautiful.
We will meet up at the picnic tables at the northwest corner of the Hines Drive/Haggerty Road intersection. Our adopted road stretches approximately 1.6 miles along Hines Drive, between Haggerty and Wilcox. There will be a short safety meeting and instructions for clean-up. The county provides yellow safety vests and trash bags. You may want to bring heavy gardening or plastic gloves. We should be done in under two hours, depending on number of volunteers.
RSVP to Nancy Sullivan at nsullivanteacher@ comcast.net so you can be reached in case of another postponement.
Future Adopt A Road dates this year are Saturday, July 20 and Saturday, September 28.
Thursday, May 16, 2013 - Plymouth Democratic Club Meeting
When: 7:00 pm
Where: Plymouth District Library, 223 S Main Street, Plymouth
We are pleased to host Mark Totten, the exciting new Democratic candidate for Michigan Attorney General. Mark and his team launched AGforUs at the Michigan Democratic Party Convention in February 2013. Under Michigan law, the attorney general defends the “public interest.” The courts describe the AG as the “guardian of the people.” And yet for the past two years Bill Schuette has used the office to serve his party, his patrons, and his own political career. The mission of AGforUs is to reclaim the “People’s Lawyer” for the People, by casting a vision for what the Michigan Attorney General should be and by holding Bill Schuette accountable.
Mark Totten was born and raised in Kalamazoo and today is a law professor at Michigan State University, where his work focuses on criminal law, ethics, and consumer protection. After graduating from Yale University with his law degree and PhD in ethics, Mark spent a few years in Washington, D.C., where he served as an attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice and then clerked for a judge on a federal court of appeals. His wife, Kristin, is also an attorney who advocates for kids with disabilities. Mark and Kristin returned home to Kalamazoo to raise their family in 2008. In addition to his work at MSU, Mark has also served as a federal prosecutor and on the school board for the Kalamazoo Public Schools. For a longer profile, read this recent article in the Detroit Legal News.
